Who We Are

Ecological Balance Cameroon is an apolitical, non-religious, and non-profit organization dedicated to empowering communities to protect and preserve nature. Based in Cameroon and officially registered under No. 660/G.37/D14/VOL III/SAAJP, we work at the intersection of conservation and community well-being.

Our mission is to foster a harmonious relationship between people and the environment by promoting sustainable practices that support both ecological integrity and local livelihoods..
At Ecological Balance Cameroon, we are proud to be actively contributing to the achievement of several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—specifically SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

Through our work in clean energy, carbon removal, regenerative agriculture, and climate change resilience, we aim to create a healthier planet and a more equitable future for communities across Cameroon.

  • No Poverty (SDG 1): By promoting green jobs and sustainable livelihoods in rural communities, we help lift families out of poverty through eco-entrepreneurship and community-driven projects.

  • Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6): Our landscape restoration and reforestation efforts protect vital watersheds, ensuring access to clean water and improving sanitation through nature-based solutions.

  • Climate Action (SDG 13): From deploying clean, renewable energy solutions to scaling up carbon removal strategies, we are actively reducing emissions and strengthening climate resilience.

  • Life on Land (SDG 15): We work to restore degraded ecosystems, promote biodiversity, and enhance soil health through regenerative agriculture and forest conservation.

We believe in a future where people, planet, and prosperity thrive in harmony and we’re taking bold steps every day to make that vision a reality.

Our strategy

Keeping Nature Natural

Restoring Nature, Reviving Ecosystems;

One of our core pillars is the preservation of natural ecosystems keeping them as untouched and vibrant as possible. To achieve this, we collaborate closely with key government bodies in Cameroon, including the Ministry of Environment (MINEPDED), the Ministry of Forestry & Wildlife (MINFOF), the Ministry of Water Resources (MINEE), and the Ministry of Territorial Administration.

Through these partnerships, we’ve already planted eight Miyawaki-style mini-forests, adding over 30,000 native trees across 15,000 square meters. These dense, fast-growing forests are not just beautiful  they’re powerful tools for recharging groundwater, improving water tables, restoring biodiversity, and fighting climate change. And we’re just getting started. In collaboration with these agencies, we’ve launched a landscape-scale restoration initiative in Northwest Cameroon, aiming to restore 10,000 hectares of degraded land.

The first phase, which began in September 2023, is focused on reviving the wetlands of the Nkambe plateau. We plan to plant over 1 million trees on 36 hectares as part of our mission to improve local water supply and revive the ecosystem.

Regenerative Agriculture Through Indigenous Forest Gardening

We are transforming how farming is done in Cameroon by reviving Indigenous forest gardening techniques that restore soil health, protect biodiversity, and ensure long-term food security. In partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, our Regenerative Agriculture initiative trains farmers in sustainable, climate-resilient practices. To date, we have trained over 1,000 local farmers and established forest garden demonstration sites in three of Cameroon’s five agroecological zones: the monomodal humid forest, the Western highland plateau, and the bimodal humid forest. This effort directly addresses the alarming deforestation in the Congo Basin, where slash-and-burn agriculture caused the loss of over 165,000 square kilometers of forest between 2000 and 2014.

Education

Our education pillar is dedicated to shifting how local communities perceive and interact with nature. Through media campaigns, awareness programs, and hands-on training, we promote a deeper understanding of the true value of natural ecosystems. We work to inspire a mindset where nature is seen not as an obstacle to development, but as a foundation for it. We train and support naturpreneurs (or forestpreneurs) to build nature-based businesses that improve livelihoods and strengthen local economies. Ultimately, our goal is to empower communities to advocate against harmful development and protect their environment. So far, our sensitization programs have reached over 30,000 people, trained 500+ naturpreneurs, and supported seven emerging green businesses.

Sustainable Leadership

Africa’s most urgent challenge is the shortage of sustainable leaders, individuals who are not only competent and visionary, but also deeply committed to the well-being of their communities. In response, we are dedicated to nurturing over 50 young changemakers each year, equipping them with the skills and mindset needed to drive lasting impact. These are leaders who embody the change they wish to see. To date, we have already trained more than 100 emerging leaders who are actively shaping a more just, sustainable, and prosperous Africa.
